About this tool

Every design is built on a few main colours. This tool finds them by grouping all the picture's pixels into the chosen number of colours, then shows each with its HEX, RGB and CMYK codes, the nearest everyday colour name and its share of the picture. Download a colour card to send, a text list, or an Adobe swatch file that opens in Photoshop's and Illustrator's Swatches panel. CMYK values are a plain conversion - your printer's profile decides the exact ink. Everything happens in your browser: your picture is never uploaded.

Questions

How do I find the colours of a picture?

Add the picture: its main colours are found by themselves and shown with their HEX, RGB and CMYK codes, the nearest Pantone TCX colour, a colour name and how much of the picture each one covers.

Can I use the colours in Photoshop or Illustrator?

Yes. The download has an Adobe swatch file (.ase) - open it from the Swatches panel - plus a colour card picture and a text list of the codes.

Why are the CMYK values only approximate?

CMYK depends on the printer, ink and paper. The values here are a plain conversion from the screen colour; ask your printer for their exact profile when the colour must match.

Does it give Pantone numbers?

Yes - every colour shows the nearest Pantone TCX colour (the fashion and home colours used for fabric), with its number and name. A screen colour can only be matched approximately: check the number against a physical Pantone guide before dyeing or printing.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The colours are found inside your browser, on your own computer.
