About this tool

An embroidery machine sews from a stitch file, not a picture. This tool digitises a design by itself: it reduces it to thread colours, fills every shape with tatami fill stitches - rows 0.4 mm apart, stitches up to 3.5 mm, moved along row by row so no lines form - ties every shape on and off with lock stitches, jumps between shapes and changes the thread between colours. It saves DST (Tajima), read by almost every machine, and EXP (Melco), at the size you choose in cm, with a picture of the stitches and the thread list. Best for logos and motifs with clear shapes; always sew a test piece. It can also make an embroidered-look picture to show a client. Everything happens in your browser - nothing is uploaded.

Questions

Can it make an embroidery machine file?

Yes - choose "Machine file": the design is digitised by itself (every thread colour filled with tatami fill stitches, lock stitches, jumps and colour changes) and saved as DST (Tajima - read by almost every industrial and many home machines) and EXP (Melco / Bernina), with a picture of the stitches and the thread list.

Which designs work best for the machine file?

Logos, motifs and drawings with a few flat colours and shapes bigger than about 2 mm. Fine lines and small text need hand digitising (satin stitches) to look good; check the stitch view before sewing and always sew a test piece.

My machine wants PES or JEF - what do I do?

Open the DST in your machine's own software or a free converter (for example Ink/Stitch in Inkscape) and save it as PES, JEF or VP3.

What does the embroidered look do?

It makes a picture of the design as embroidery - fill, satin or cross stitch, with thread shine and a satin edge - to show a client before digitising.

Is my design uploaded?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own computer.
