About this tool

A pattern is seamless when its right edge continues into its left edge and its bottom edge into its top - then copies placed side by side show no line. A tiny step in colour at the edge is enough to show a line every repeat across a whole roll of fabric. This checker tiles the design and measures each join against the design's own inside: if the step across the join is no bigger than the steps between neighbouring pixels within the design, the join cannot be seen. It checks straight and half-drop repeats and marks in red the parts of a join that would show. Everything happens in your browser - nothing is uploaded.

Questions

How do I know if a pattern is seamless?

Put copies of it side by side and on top of each other: if no line shows where they meet, it is seamless. This checker does that for you and also measures every join - left to right and top to bottom - against the design's own inside.

What do the red marks mean?

They show the parts of a join where the colours do not continue - the places where a line will be seen on the printed fabric, wallpaper or website background.

Does it check half-drop repeats?

Yes. A design that does not join straight is also checked as a half-drop (every second column half a block lower), the most used repeat for all-over prints.

My design is not seamless - how do I fix it?

Open it in our repeat block maker: it joins the edges for a straight, half-drop or brick repeat so no line shows.

Is my design uploaded?

No. It is checked inside your browser, on your own computer.
